Tecolote Canyon is not even a mile from Presidio park, yet the vegetation is completely different because of its physical geography. This canyon, although in a very wet year can be more lush, in an average year is very dry since it faces to the south.
A very dry, sun-bleached place in San Diego, with a visitor's center at the entrance at Sea World Drive (which becomes Teclote Canyon Road) that is often open and even has a water bowl for when your dogs get thirsty. This is another natural place in San Diego you can take your dog anytime. Dogs do have to be on a leash in Tecolote canyon, but we are fortunate to have so many places like this in San Diego. Only across the bridge is Fiesta Island, where dogs can be off-leash anytime. But that will have to be another post.
